Overview

This position directs the Collection teams at Community Blood Center of Kansas City (CBC), a division of NYBC-e, with responsibility for all related blood product collection activity for the states of Kansas and Missouri. A key responsibility of this position is to provide strategic planning and development to facilitate high growth and expansion of collections and collection facilities.  This position is accountable for ensuring performance measures are met, including attaining the budgeted red blood cell and platelet collection goals, productivity, efficiency, and future growth. This includes understanding and abiding by all federal regulatory standards. This position must work collaboratively with the Director of Donor Recruitment and the Donor Outreach team to optimize collections with primary focus on engaging youth, first time and returning mobile and donor center donors.

 

Based in Kansas City, MO,  St. Joseph, MO, or Topeka, KS.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties, Responsibilities or Activiews Required by Job:

  • Leadership - Leads, develops, inspires, and mentors Associate Directors, Collection Team Managers, supervisors, and team members.
  • Creates annual and long-term strategic plans to facilitate growth and expansion.
  • Creates opportunities to develop the next generation of leaders at all levels– ensuring a strong succession plan.
  • Builds a culture of inclusiveness and recognition that positively impacts productivity.
  • Collaborations - Partners with the Donor Recruitment leaders to ensure daily and weekly goals are met in both mobiles and Donor Centers
  • Collaborates with the Donor Engagement, Donor Marketing and Donor Outreach teams to create and execute activities intended to enhance the donor experience and ensure donors return to donate again.
  • Works with Technical Operation leaders to assess best practices, operational effectiveness and recommend tactics – technology or process, to achieve success.
  • Compliance - Ensures collections team members are fully trained in the best practices of customer service, such that the donor pains will reduce and the gains and delights will be maximized.
  • Responsible for ensuring SOP’s, competency and training are followed to move the business unit towards operational excellence.
  • Promotes and ensures compliance to all regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures, and practices as they relate to the business unit.
  • Analytics - Monitor and drive performance in the collection of all product types of donated products to meet production goals.
  • Reviews and develops streamlined processes to implement efficient staffing structures.
  • Monitors and manages Key Performance Indicators to facilitate the achievement of NYBC Collection Team optimization targets.
  • Other - Utilizes tools such as reports and applications to increase business efficiency.
  • Works with various departments within the organization to drive positive engagement for innovation and streamlining of processes.
  • Manages projects through various stages for Collections and as requested, for the Enterprise.
  • Leads or participates in Enterprise committees or teams to identify and support the application of best practices and standardization throughout the Enterprise.
  • Stays abreast of operational advancement and/or products within the industry for purposes of review and application throughout the Enterprise.
  • Manages vendor contract negotiation and compliance.
  • Manages budgets and identifies cost effective strategies for operation in the business unit.

Other Secondary Functions:

  • Promotes professional working relationship with Quality & Regulatory Affairs, Hospital Services/Distribution, Logistics, and other related departments to ensure appropriate application of regulations while improving operational efficiency.
  • Regularly visits blood drives and donor centers to engage with team members and monitor the donor experience.
  • Works across business units and divisions to develop and incorporate best practices.
  • Prepare various reports to share with Enterprise senior leaders.
  • Attends conferences, seminars, as required.
  • Ensures continuous improvement of business unit practices and processes.
  • Any related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required Minimum Education & Experience

Education:

 

Bachelor’s degree in business, public or healthcare administration or, in lieu of degree, 4+ years in blood banking or similar organization combined with High School diploma.

 

Related Experience   

 

10+ years’ experience in healthcare or equivalent regulated environment which includes experience in a supervisory/managerial capacity.

 

5+ years of progressively responsible management experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.  Demonstrated ability to manage both manager and staff level positions required.

 

Experience with performance management, developing performance improvement plans, and providing mentoring to managers.

 

Experience in managing projects from beginning to end with successful results. Previous experience in process changes management or technical writing a plus.

 

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to the requirements listed above that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business, public or healthcare administration strongly preferred.

Experience:

Experience in blood banking and/or apheresis preferred.

 

Required Licenses / Certification

Valid Driver’s license.

CPR Certification preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of all regulatory standards (FDA, AABB, cGMP, OSHA, DOT) to collect blood
  • Working knowledge of BECs systems and staffing modules
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suites
  • Knowledge of budget procedures
  • Working knowledge of training in all donor collections operations including, but not limited to, donor registration, donor eligibility assessment, donor phlebotomy techniques, and product handling and management; and have a working understanding of donor recruitment, donor testing, and product services operations
  • Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems
