The position is responsible for preparing blood products that meet the safety, purity
and potency requirements of FDA and AABB. This includes processing whole blood to
create packed red blood cells and plasma products, processing apheresis red blood
cells, special blood products and application of final product labels after release.
Prepares and labels products according to Standard Operating Procedures,
including but not limited to red blood cell products, platelets, and plasma
(including Cryoprecipitated AHF) products.
Performs visual inspection of blood products at each step of processing.
Maintains accurate and complete records.
Performs required equipment maintenance, trouble shooting and quality control
on assigned instrumentation.
Identifies and reports problems that may adversely affect products, and
performs corrections, if applicable,
Quarantines products or supplies when required.
Unpacks, receives, and inspects shipments containing blood products and/or
donor samples.
Prepares shipments of donor samples, source plasma, and recovered plasma
as required.
Responds to environmental and storage alarms. Performs corrective action
when necessary.
Performs data entry into BECS and usage of applicable software.
Generates various reports as needed.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
